MangaRecently I am working very hard on my weakpoints for climbing up to the next level of my career as manga-ka.
To be honest, it is kind of frustrating being confronted with your failures directly, and also painful. Japanese Manga is like martial arts for those who perform it.
But, I am learning more and more, never standing still because I want to become much stronger than now!

Emergency adoptable customs (2/24/13)While I'd like to stay and keep offering art requests for free, recently my only laptop has been shutting down on me at random intervals, and I suspect the battery is dying. I'd love to just get a new laptop altogether, since this one is about 10 years old, but I just simply don't have that kind of money, so I'm opening up emergency customs, and I'd really appreciate any help I can get at the moment. I'm sorry the price is a bit high, but I've been delaying buying the new battery since I haven't had the funds and I'm afraid I waited a bit too long, so I'm afraid if I don't get the battery replaced soon, I may not be able to make any art for a while, or even be able to get online. Even if you can't afford to buy a commission, please pass this along and spread the word.

I am going to explain what I have been going through and why I am on hiatus. This journal will be extremely personal, so if you're uncomfortable reading, please turn away now.
I went through an extreme amount of stress during summer camp because it was my first time in nature with no one I knew. It left a permanent scar in my mentality. I always had a mild form of an anxiety disorder, but after camp, it escalated into a panic disorder. Look it up online if you don't know what it is. ):
I was going to the psychologist I went to in middle school, and I felt like I got better, but then school started. It made my stress worse, and I felt like I was becoming an agoraphobic. I never went to my parents for help or told them anything personal, but this time I just had to.
On Friday, my mom took me to a new psychologist because my other one lived too far away. She recommended me to go to a neurologis

BUYING AN ADOPTABLE

Have an Adoptable Fund ready
Having some extra cash in your paypal or extra points in your dA helps you a lot in case you wish to purchase a limited hold-time adoptable. To avoid scamming, many adoptables artists ask for payment within a certain time frame (one or two days generally) and having a fund helps you when you see an adoptable you really want. Sometimes artists will let you put an adoptable on hold, but it's still better to ask first if the 'hold' option is available or not before claiming.

Find an Adoptable that you really like
Adoptables often come in sheets or maybe you follow a lot of adoptables artists and no one can deny that there's a lot of choice around dA. Since you finances are not unlimited, you might find yourself in the tight spot of choosing an adoptable over another. The point here is, you need to *choose*. Because asking both and then making one

Here in the US, Companies that are well known to publish Manga are: VIZ Media, Dark Horse Manga, P2 Manga Publishing, Dream Manga, Kodansha USA, Seven Seas Entertainment, . . . . . ummmn, . . . Madman Entertainment, Vertical Inc., Digital Manga Publishing, ALC Publishing, Mangamagazine, and a few more that I can't remember.
I would have said Tokyo Pop, but their American Branch shut down in April of 2011.

I recommend VIZ media, Dark Horse, and Madman; Mainly because I've had hands on experience with those guys. Each of these guys have their own requirements for submitting Manga on their respective sites. Dark horse is the toughest out of the 3 for sure though. I know because I've interned for all of these companies. On average 1 out of 243 manga(s) are accepted at Dark Horse.

Did you ever get your manga published or at least positive feedback from the publishers? And could you tell me how I could submit my manga? I really want to become a manga-ka!

Actually I've never tried to get a manga published; considering my horrendous drawing skills, i'm just the grammar Nazi intern with acute OCD. I can also draw straight lines free hand.

I do however write light novels on the occasion and always receive constructive criticism and the occasional instructions to just re-write more then half of what I've done. Pointers are however always given.

To become a mangaka you just have to work not only on your story but your drawings too. You always have to be willing to re-write and re-draw things over and over again. That's about the only real advise I can give you.

I also suggest researching the company you want to work with. Find a place that would work with your needs as a writer. After that, just call them up and make an appointment.
